SUMMARY:ACRM-F7/MOCA® Workshop
DESCRIPTION:MOCA®/Crisis Resource Management Training for Practicing Anesthesiologists (ACRM) \nThe Center for Medical Simulation (CMS) offers intensive one day workshops in Anesthesia Crisis Resource Management (ACRM) for all anesthesiologists that will meet the MOCA® Part IV simulation requirement. \nCMS Anesthesia Crisis Resource Management workshops are designed for those anesthesiologists seeking to practice their skills in managing critical events. The overall focus of these workshops is on learning the type of teamwork and generic skills needed when managing any kind of infrequent but critical event in anesthesia and opportunities will be made available to learn skills in managing certain specific events. During the workshops\, participants requiring MOCA® certification will each have a turn as the primary anesthesiologist caring for the patient. \nPlease note that if you are from BWH\, BIDMC\, BCH\, MGH\, NWH\, or MEEI you must register for the workshop through your scheduler. If you desire MOCA certification you must tell your scheduler before coming to CMS. All others should register through the website. We must know beforehand if you want to use this workshop to meet your MOCA requirement. We cannot register you for MOCA credit on the day of the workshop or after you have taken the workshop. \nLearn more about the course.

If you would like us to run this course exclusively for members of your department or institution\, please Contact Us. \nApply Now \nAbout this course\nThe Center for Medical Simulation’s online Feedback Course provides a way for health profession educators\, leaders\, administrators\, or health related practitioners who give feedback in healthcare settings to develop their feedback skills. Course participants meet in a 2-3 hour class video conference 6 times over a 7-week span with 1 midterm break between either course week 3\, 4\, or 5. Participants complete an additional 3-6 hours of preparation and practice time course work per week at a time most convenient to them. \nNOTE: The course runs March 8 – April 23\, 2021 (7 weeks) with a break during the week of April 12-16\, 2021. \nClick on the date to see the session time in your time zone. Before our second class together\, we will ask you to read Chapter 5. It is a short and powerful chapter–about a 15 minute read.\n\nTechnology Requirements\nAll materials and course interactions will occur online to reach participants from different areas of the world. There are several technology requirements. The course uses a team collaboration application that syncs to mobile devices and computers for convenience. Participants will receive training on the application with activities to orient the participants to each other and the application prior to the start of the course. The application will serve as the platform for learning\, communications\, and sharing materials to foster a community of practice that can continue beyond the course. As a behavioral scientist and former clinical nurse and hospital administrator\, Dr. Palaganas’ passion is in using health care simulation as a platform for interprofessional education. She served as a committee member of the Institute of Medicine’s report on measuring the impact of interprofessional education on practice. Dr. Palaganas has shaped the field of simulation\, leading the development of the Society for Simulation’s Accreditation and Certification Program\, authored their first textbook\, Defining Excellence in Simulation Programs as editor-in-chief. She urged the development of the recently released Society for Simulation dictionary\, authored seminal articles\, and co-authored field-changing research including the National League for Nursing study for high-stakes assessment using simulation. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWalter Eppich\, MD\, PhD\nPrincipal Faculty\nCenter for Medical Simulation\, Boston\, Massachusetts\nPhysician\nAnn & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago\, Chicago\, Illinois\nDirector\, Feinberg Academy of Medical Educators (FAME)\nDirector of Faculty Development\, Department of Medical Education\nAssociate Professor of Pediatrics (Emergency Medicine) and Medical Education\nNorthwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine\, Chicago\, Illinois \nDr. Eppich has taught extensively on basic and advanced simulation educator courses. He has served as an invited speaker on topics related to simulation\, feedback\, and debriefing around the world. His research involves qualitative methodologies\, team reflexivity\, healthcare debriefing\, and teamwork in extreme environments. He focuses on how talk within teams influences learning and performance in both simulated and clinical workplace settings. Dr. Eppich has co-authored over 70 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. In the spring 2018\, he completed a field campaign to Antarctica to study teamwork in polar research teams. From 2012-2014 Dr. Eppich served on the Board of Directors of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. In 2019\, Dr. Eppich was named a medical education research fellow at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm\, Sweden. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nJo Shapiro\, MD\, FACS\nAssociate Professor of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery\nHarvard Medical School\, Boston\, Massachusetts\nConsultant\nMassachusetts General Hospital Department of Anesthesia\, Pain and Critical Care\, Boston\, Massachusetts\nPrincipal Faculty\nCenter for Medical Simulation\, Boston\, Massachusetts \nDr. Shapiro founded the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Center for Professionalism and Peer Support in 2008 where she served as the director for over 10 years. During that time\, the Center became a model for national and international institutions seeking methods to enhance trust and respect and improve clinician wellbeing. She continues to assist organizations in developing specific programmatic approaches such as peer support\, professionalism and wellbeing initiatives.
