SUMMARY:Healthcare Simulation Essentials: Design and Debriefing
DESCRIPTION:Simulation Instructor Training\nHealthcare Simulation Essentials: Design and Debriefing (HSEDD)\n(formerly known as the Comprehensive Instructor Workshop)\n\n\nLed by some of the world’s leading simulation educators\, the Healthcare Simulation Essentials: Design and Debriefing (HSEDD) course is the Center for Medical Simulation’s (CMS) flagship faculty development course. Featuring CMS’ Debriefing with Good Judgment ® and SimZones approaches\, the course prepares simulation program leaders and instructors to position simulation to solve real problems in healthcare organizations and health profession schools. Attendees can expect the Center for Medical Simulation’s well-known transformational educational experience provided by a team of the world’s leading simulation experts with diverse expertise and backgrounds. \nTo leverage attendees investment in this course and position attendees’ work to have the greatest sustainable impact\, we ask attendees to do some work before the course begins. We ask attendees to speak with at least one key partner in their organization to identify a problem that can be addressed with simulation (e.g. patient safety issues\, curriculum challenges). In the course\, we will then work with each attendee in immersive small groups to design simulation curriculum using our proven methods\, as well as practice Debriefing with Good Judgment©. \n \nCourse Readiness Goals\n\nCo-create a strategic plan with partners to make a sustainable impact with simulation\nBuild a challenging and safe learning environment\nDesign\, conduct\, and debrief simulations across the SimZones\nApply the “With Good Judgment” approach to change behavior\nThrive as an educator and change agent\n\nFormat\nThe course takes place over 5 consecutive days. It is our experience that this intense course is best accomplished via continuous\, individualized mentoring from both highly experienced CMS faculty\, as well as from peers in the course. The course interweaves discussions\, immersive practice with feedback and reflections. Participants will facilitate prebriefings and debriefings and receive coaching and feedback from leading debriefing experts. \nWe tend to have a lot of opportunities to interact with each other to network\, especially during breaks and our course dinner. You will also get to see the beautiful city of Boston! \nTechnology Requirements\nThe in person course uses a learning management system (LMS)\, the CMS Virtual Campus\, accessible from any web browser which serves as the platform for learning\, communications\, and material to foster a community of practice that can continue beyond the course. \nContinuing Medical Education (CME) Credit\n\nCME credit is only available for physicians in the United States who complete 5-Day courses held at or hosted online by CMS. Nurses\, Midwives\, and other healthcare providers will receive a “Certificate of Attendance” with credit hours that may be converted to CEs or CEUs. \nMassachusetts-licensed nurses can find information about converting CME to CEU at this Mass.gov site. Nurses from other states should check with their respective State Board or credentialing body for guidance on this process. \nAt this time\, Massachusetts Medical Society is not able to provide CME credits for these offerings to physicians outside the United States. Physicians outside of the United States will receive a “Certificate of Attendance” with credit hours that may be submitted to a local authority for evaluation.\n \nAccreditation Statement\nThis activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the Massachusetts Medical Society and Center for Medical Simulation. The Massachusetts Medical Society is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. \nAMA Credit Designation Statement\nThe Massachusetts Medical Society designates this live activity for a maximum of 33.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. \nThis activity meets the criteria of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine for risk management study.

SUMMARY:ACRM-F9/MOCA® Workshop
DESCRIPTION:MOCA®/Crisis Resource Management Training for Practicing Anesthesiologists (ACRM) \nThe Center for Medical Simulation (CMS) offers intensive one day workshops in Anesthesia Crisis Resource Management (ACRM) for all anesthesiologists that will meet the MOCA® Part IV simulation requirement. \nCMS Anesthesia Crisis Resource Management workshops are designed for those anesthesiologists seeking to practice their skills in managing critical events. The overall focus of these workshops is on learning the type of teamwork and generic skills needed when managing any kind of infrequent but critical event in anesthesia and opportunities will be made available to learn skills in managing certain specific events. During the workshops\, participants requiring MOCA® certification will each have a turn as the primary anesthesiologist caring for the patient. \nPlease note that if you are from BWH\, BIDMC\, BCH\, MGH\, NWH\, or MEEI you must register for the workshop through your scheduler. If you desire MOCA certification you must tell your scheduler before coming to CMS. All others should register through the website. We must know beforehand if you want to use this workshop to meet your MOCA requirement. We cannot register you for MOCA credit on the day of the workshop or after you have taken the workshop. \nLearn more about the course.

SUMMARY:Debriefing Assessment for Simulation in Healthcare (DASH) Rater Training Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Tuition\n$575 USD\nNOTE: Tuition covers 1 person to participate in the webinar. No additional viewers are allowed. If you would like us to run this course exclusively for members of your department or institution\, please Contact Us. \nApply Now \nAbout this session\nDebriefing clinical simulation experiences is widely understood as a crucial step in clarifying and consolidating insights and lessons from simulations. The Debriefing Assessment for Simulation in Healthcare (DASH) is designed to assist in evaluating and developing faculty debriefing and instructional skills. The DASH is a widely used instrument with known psychometric properties. It is designed to be applied in a variety of healthcare disciplines and simulation settings and can be used for summative or formative evaluation. This intensive immersion provides an overview of the six elements to an effective debriefing as defined by the DASH before moving into three rating cycles. \nEquipment Requirements\nThe webinar is delivered via Zoom\, a web conferencing platform. All materials and course interactions will occur online. In order to participate fully\, each person must have: \n\nTheir own computer\, tablet\, or mobile phone\nReliable high-speed internet access (minimum 3 Mbps upload/download speed)\nMicrophone and speakers (built-in\, headset or from webcam)\nOptional (but preferred): Webcam\n\nEach individual – even those participants who are from the same institution – needs his or her own computer and computer headset (microphone and earphones). We highly encourage you to have a webcam to enrich our interactions. \n\nInstructors\n\n\n\nJanice Palaganas\, PhD\, RN\, NP\, FSSH\, ANEF\, FAAN\nAssociate Director of Health Professions Education\nMGH Institute of Health Professions\, Boston\, Massachusetts\nPrincipal Faculty\nCenter for Medical Simulation\, Boston\, Massachusetts \nDr. Palaganas has developed a passion for teamwork from her background as an emergency nurse\, trauma nurse practitioner\, director of emergency and critical care services\, and faculty for schools of medicine\, nursing\, allied health\, management\, physician assistant studies\, and emergency medicine. As a behavioral scientist and former clinical nurse and hospital administrator\, Dr. Palaganas’ passion is in using health care simulation as a platform for interprofessional education.
