If you would like us to run this course exclusively for members of your department or institution\, please Contact Us. \nApply Now \nAbout this course\nThe Center for Medical Simulation’s online Feedback Course provides a way for health profession educators\, leaders\, administrators\, or health related practitioners who give feedback in healthcare settings to develop their feedback skills. \nThe course runs for 6 consecutive weeks from April 3-May 11\, 2023. Course participants meet in a weekly 2 hour class video conference. Participants complete an additional 1-3 hours of preparation and practice time per week at a time most convenient to them. \nClick on the date to see the session time in your time zone. There are several technology requirements. \nWe will use 3 platforms in this course for learning\, communications\, and sharing materials to foster a community of practice that can continue beyond the course: \n\nLearning Management System (LMS): The CMS Virtual Campus will serve as the platform for delivering course content and collecting feedback through a course evaluation.\nVideo Conferencing: We will use Zoom for our live sessions. You only need a free account to connect to our classes.\nMessaging: To foster our community of practice\, we will use WhatsApp\, for asynchronous discussions. This is a free\, simple\, secure\, and reliable messaging\nand calling app that is available on phones and Windows desktops all over the world.\n\nParticipants will complete activities to orient them to each other and the platforms prior to the start of the course. To participate fully in this course\, each individual – even if they are attending the course with a colleague from the same institution – needs: \n\nTheir own computer (desktop or laptop) for Zoom sessions. We will break out into different rooms in each class. Sharing a computer limits the ability to interact.\nTablet or mobile phone is recommended for quickly responding to conversations in our WhatsApp group. You may use a desktop/web version of WhatsApp to interact with our group chat.\nReliable high-speed internet access (minimum 3 Mbps upload/download speed). Wired internet access is preferred for our Zoom classes but a strong wireless connection or hotspot will suffice.\nTheir own computer headset (microphone and earphones)\nWebcam\nZoom Desktop Client installed on their computer\nWe recommend downloading\nand installing the Zoom Desktop Client on the computer used for the course for full\nfunctionality including local recording of your pre- and post- self-assessment.\nWhatsApp installed on their mobile device\nWe recommend downloading and installing the WhatsApp on a mobile device to keep up with the class discussion.\nTheir own space away from others because conversations from nearby colleagues can interfere with the audio. The live sessions should be completed in a space not shared with others.\n\n\n \nInstructors\n\n\n\nJanice Palaganas\, PhD\, RN\, NP\, FSSH\, ANEF\, FAAN\nAssociate Director of Health Professions Education\nMGH Institute of Health Professions\, Boston\, Massachusetts\nPrincipal Faculty\nCenter for Medical Simulation\, Boston\, Massachusetts \nDr. Palaganas has developed a passion for teamwork from her background as an emergency nurse\, trauma nurse practitioner\, director of emergency and critical care services\, and faculty for schools of medicine\, nursing\, allied health\, management\, physician assistant studies\, and emergency medicine. As a behavioral scientist and former clinical nurse and hospital administrator\, Dr. Palaganas’ passion is in using health care simulation as a platform for interprofessional education. She served as a committee member of the Institute of Medicine’s report on measuring the impact of interprofessional education on practice. Dr. Palaganas has shaped the field of simulation\, leading the development of the Society for Simulation’s Accreditation and Certification Program\, authored their first textbook\, Defining Excellence in Simulation Programs as editor-in-chief. She urged the development of the recently released Society for Simulation dictionary\, authored seminal articles\, and co-authored field-changing research including the National League for Nursing study for high-stakes assessment using simulation. \n\n\n\n\n\nJo Shapiro\, MD\, FACS\nAssociate Professor of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery\nHarvard Medical School\, Boston\, Massachusetts\nConsultant\nMassachusetts General Hospital Department of Anesthesia\, Pain and Critical Care\, Boston\, Massachusetts\nPrincipal Faculty\nCenter for Medical Simulation\, Boston\, Massachusetts \nDr. Shapiro founded the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Center for Professionalism and Peer Support in 2008 where she served as the director for over 10 years. During that time\, the Center became a model for national and international institutions seeking methods to enhance trust and respect and improve clinician wellbeing. She continues to assist organizations in developing specific programmatic approaches such as peer support\, professionalism and wellbeing initiatives.
