Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the International Meeting of Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH) is going virtual this year It will be held online from January 19th through March 31, 2021 and will include live online and prerecorded sessions, research abstracts, technical proceedings manuscripts and SimVentor demonstrations. Click here http://imsh2021.org/program to view the schedule at a glance.

While everyone here at CMS is going to miss seeing old friends and attending sessions in New Orleans, you can still catch up with us online as CMS’ faculty will be presenting at the virtual conference. The following is a list of research abstract presentations, live and recorded sessions, and Simventor sessions where our faculty will be presenting.

Title: Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity (VUCA) in Simulation during COVID-19 (1090-003539)
Course Overview: The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated changes that were already percolating in simulation, higher education, and healthcare. Weaknesses in healthcare systems, curricula, and educational models have been revealed. This panel of leaders will present their perspectives of the current and future state of simulation post (hopefully) COVID. The audience will crowd source additional strategies.

Date: February 16, 2021 @ 7:00pm
CMS Presenters: Maria Rudolph, Jenny Rudolph, Janice Palaganas, Chris Roussin, Kate Morse, Walter Eppich
Session Type: Live Educational Courses
Title: Reflection on Reflection: Improving Feedback & Debriefing Skills (1090-003657)
Course overview: Jump into a pool of reflection with us! This workshop will teach educators who use experiential learning, including mentoring and simulation, strategies for using reflection to process feedback, debriefing, and difficult conversations. We will explore the utility of reflection and give instruction in writing process notes, a reflective practice that allows iterative cycles of observation, analysis, and insight after an encounter has occurred.

Date: February 26, 2021 @ 1:00pm
CMS Presenters: Janice Palaganas, Mary Fey, Grace Ng
Session Type: Live Educational Courses
Title: Speed Mentoring: A Networking Event with Leaders in Healthcare Simulation (1090-000126)
Course Overview: Are you looking to expand your healthcare simulation career? Do you want advice in research design, mentorship, or administration? Look no further! In this fifth annual “speed mentoring” event hosted by the Formal Training AG, you will get to meet in small groups with the likes of Mary Anne Rizzolo, Janice Palaganas, Haru Okuda, and Jim Gordon for quick-fire, 5-10 minute mentoring sessions. Everyone’s welcome and no preparation’s required!

Date: March 9, 2021 @ 11:00am
CMS Presenters: Janice Palaganas
Session Type: Lecture Series
Title: Bringing Sim to Life Lecture – Embrace Your Hypocrisy: Creating Authentic Education, featuring Janice Palaganas, PhD, APRN, ANEF, FAAN, FSSH

Date: March 16, 2021 @ 11:00am
CMS Presenters: Jenny Rudolph
Session Type: Lecture Series
Title: Bringing Sim to Life Lecture, featuring Katie Walker, MBA, RN and Jenny Rudolph, PhD

CMS Presenters: Fernando Salvetti, Barbara Bertagni, Roxane Gardner, Rebecca Minehart
Session Type: Live Educational Courses
Title: Learning 4.0: Easy to Use Augmented, Virtual and Mixed Reality (1090-004003)
Course overview: 4.0 is the ongoing technology revolution that is changing the way we design and deliver medical simulation. How to use augmented, virtual and mixed reality to enhance medical simulation online and face-to-face? How to design an immersive learning experience? How to create interactive and effective scenarios? Who is doing great so far? This program can be delivered both face-to-face and remotely on Zoom.

PRERECORDED SESSIONS (Available Asynchronously)
Available via the IMSH Delivers Virtual Platform January 19, 2021 through December 31, 2021.

CMS Presenters: Demian Szyld, Laura Rock, Mary Fey
Session Type: Prerecorded Educational Courses
Title: Debriefing in the Clinical Environment: before, during and after COVID-19 (1090-003918)
Course Overview: Debriefing clinical events has the potential to improve teamwork processes. Debriefing practices from the simulated environment can be transferred to the hospital, but questions remain about the best processes for clinical debriefing. This workshop will focus on creating a psychologically safe environment for clinical debriefing and identifying criteria to guide clinical debriefing for both critical events and at the end of a shift.

CMS Presenters: Fernando Salvetti, Barbara Bertagni, Roxane Gardner, Rebecca Minehart
Session Type: Prerecorded Educational Courses
Title: Digital Learning, Tele-simulation and Avatar-Based Role Playing Activities (1090-004130)
Course Overview: How to make engaging the online synchronous learning? How to perform at your best tele-simulation and avatar-based role playing activities? How to make digital learning authentic and not over produced? How to apply gamification strategies to enhance online cooperation?

CMS Presenters: Fernando Salvetti, Barbara Bertagni, Roxane Gardner
Session Type: Prerecorded Educational Courses
Title: Digital Future & Leadership 5.0: Fostering an Agile Mindset (1090-004134)
Course Overview: This is a crash-program from a longer one originally designed under the umbrella of the World Economic Forum (Davos and Geneva, Switzerland). Digital transformation is first of all about mindset. What are the essential elements that we need to know to foster a digital mindset within faculty and ops personnel from our simulation centers? How to foster agile models to organize work, motivate and engage people?
