Next month CMS will be delivering two sessions of its Online Healthcare Simulation Essentials: Design and Debriefing Course (HSEDD) for the Centre for Healthcare Simulation (CHS) of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS). CMS has had a long relationship with CHS and its Director, Dr. Suresh Pillai. With Dr. Pillai’s help and support, CMS has travelled to Singapore since 2013 to deliver its flagship faculty development course onsite at CHS. Last year’s trip had to be cancelled because of the Pandemic and we’re still unable to travel this year. However, since developing the online version of the HSEDD course CMS is once again able to work with Dr. Pillai to deliver the course to Simulationists from Asia and Australasia without having to travel to Singapore. To make it more convenient for the participants in this part of the world to attend the course, CMS will be teaching both sessions online from 8 AM to 5 PM Singapore time SGT.

Mary Fey RN, PhD, CMS’ Senior Director of Teaching & Learning will be the Course Director for both sessions. She will be joined by faculty members Dr. Suresh Pillai for both sessions and by Dr. Albert Chan for the April 20-23 session and Dr. Sarah Janssens for the April 27-30 session.

Commenting on teaching at CHS, Dr. Fey noted that, “Our experiences in the past at NUS have been so positive. The course participants are always so engaged and thoughtful.”  “While many participants are from Singapore, we also have participants from other parts of the Asia Pacific region, and it exciting to be able to work with people from so many different cultures.”

“We had one course in which we spent a good deal of time discussing how Debriefing with Good Judgment (DWGJ) fit in with non-western cultures.  It was fascinating and rewarding to collaborate with the learners in discovering how the fundamental elements of DWGJ (the Basic Assumption, frames, conversational strategies) still guide deep reflective learning, even when used a bit differently than they might be in western cultures.”
