Araguari, Brazil and Boston, MA, USA – Building on their long-standing partnership, IMEPAC medical school in Araguari, Brazil, and its affiliated Hospital Universitário Sagrada Família (HUSF), led by President José Júlio Lafayette, are continuing their collaboration with the Center for Medical Simulation’s Applied Learning for Performance and Safety (CMS-ALPS) division. Dr. Marcelo de Assis serves as Superintendent Director and Professor of IMEPAC and Chief Medical Officer at HUSF.
This ongoing partnership has yielded significant advancements in simulation-based learning, and the latest developments include support for the launch of new residency programs at HUSF hospital, as well as the expansion of simulation-based training programs at IMEPAC medical school.
“We’re excited to continue our partnership with CMS-ALPS and further enhance our excellent simulation-based learning programs,” said Dr. Henrique Arantes, Coordinator of the Simulation Center at IMEPAC and the Chief Learning Officer at HUSF. “Their expertise has been instrumental in helping us achieve our goals. We currently have active simulation programs spanning from the first to the twelfth semester of medical school, involving over 40 faculty members. Additionally, our nursing, nursing technician, physiotherapy, and psychology programs also use this methodology. In 2024 alone, we had 3,662 scheduled small group simulation learning activities, with 65% of these taking place in our simulation center.”
“Excellence in the incorporation of simulation-based learning into medical school curricula is a major benefit to students and a competitive advantage for a medical school,” said Christopher Roussin, PhD, Founder and Senior Director of CMS-ALPS and faculty member at Harvard Medical School. “Future physicians are looking for the best training that will have them ready for their career, and a school with an excellent and growing reputation. The IMEPAC medical school in Araguari, Brazil is outstanding in the use of simulation under Dr. Arantes’ leadership. I am very proud to say that we have a role in the progress.”
The applied learning and simulation programs at IMEPAC and HUSF hospital are designed to promote the readiness of physicians and the clinical workforce for their challenging work. These programs include:
- Simulation-based training based in the innovative SimZones framework for skill learning, situational learning and team development
- Simulation readiness training programs for medical school faculty
