The Center for Medical Simulation is pleased to announce that Lon Setnik, MD, FACEP, MHPE, will join CMS as its Director of Clinical Programs on October 1. Lon has extensive experience in faculty development for simulation educators, clinical simulation, medical staff leadership, change management, faculty development programs, and consulting work, with over 18 years of emergency medicine experience.
In his new role Lon will work closely with Roxane Gardner, MD, MSHPEd, DSc, CMS’ Executive Director and Senior Director of Clinical Programs, as well as Lia Tron, MD, MPH, Director of Anesthesia Programs, and our simulation operations team to continue to teach, develop, and advance CMS’ clinical simulation courses. Lon will also support CMS’ simulation leadership development efforts working with Grace Ng, RN, PhD, Senior Director of Faculty Development and with Chris Roussin, PhD, Senior Director of Applied Learning for Performance and Safety, in his work with CMS Affiliates and consulting projects.
Lon began his journey with CMS as a learner in our Healthcare Simulation Essentials: Design and Debriefing course (https://harvardmedsim.org/course/healthcare-simulation-essentials-design-and-debriefing/). Following this, he joined CMS as a fellow in CMS’ Visiting Scholars and Fellows program (https://harvardmedsim.org/simulation-fellowship-and-international-scholars-program/) and later became Associate Director (contract faculty) of CMS’ Clinical Programs.
Lon received his bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College in 1998 and his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School in 2002. He completed his Residency in Emergency Medicine in 2005 at the University of Rochester and received a Master of Health Professions Education degree from the MGH Institute of Health Professions in 2022.
Clinically, Lon has worked as an Emergency Medicine physician at Fingers Lake Health in Geneva New York, Elliot Health System in Manchester New Hampshire, and since 2008 at Concord Hospital in Concord New Hampshire.
Lon has been involved in patient safety, medical informatics, and simulation since 2013, most recently as the Medical Director of the Forrest D. McKerley Simulation and Education Center at Concord Hospital. He has led simulation programs with the NH Army National Guard, Paramedics, Family Medicine Residents, and hospital-based teams including Obstetric, Trauma, Pediatric and Adult Code Blue, and Stroke. As Past President of the Medical Staff he has worked towards a culture of safety, transparency, and inclusiveness in organizational leadership.
