About this session

As faculty have rapidly adopted online learning, many have found it challenging – the technology, managing the curriculum, and especially connecting with learners in a meaningful way. Join experienced online teachers as they discuss creating an online community of practice and facilitating meaningful experiential learning online.

Learning Objectives:

Following this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss practices for creating Social Presence online
  • Describe methods to facilitate online experiential learning

Equipment Requirements

The webinar is delivered via Zoom, a web conferencing platform. All materials and course interactions will occur online. In order to participate fully, each person must have:

  • Their own computer, tablet, or mobile phone
  • Reliable high-speed internet access (minimum 3 Mbps upload/download speed)
  • Microphone and speakers (built-in, headset or from webcam)
  • Optional: Webcam

Demian Szyld, MD, EdM

Dr. Szyld is an Emergency Medicine physician at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) and a Lecturer at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Szyld was the first Simulation and Education Fellow at the STRATUS Simulation Center at BWH and is actively involved in the Society for Simulation in Healthcare and has chaired the Formal Training Affinity Group, led the Affiliations Committee and served as an Accreditation Site Reviewer and completed a term on the Board of Directors (2016-2019).

Mary Fey

Mary Fey, PhD, RN, CHSE-A, ANEF
Senior Director, Teaching and Learning
Center for Medical Simulation, Boston, Massachusetts

Dr. Fey has has been working in the field of clinical simulation since 2007 and has been responsible for developing clinical simulation programs, integrating simulation into nursing curricula, and designing simulation labs. She has completed both qualitative and quantitative studies on debriefing and provides faculty development to interprofessional groups of simulation educators.

 

Kate Morse

Kate Morse PhD MSN RN AGACNP-Ret
Assistant Dean for Experiential Learning and Innovation
Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Professions

Dr. Morse has extensive clinical experience as a critical nurse and an acute care nurse practitioner. After 23 years in practice as a nurse practitioner, she now focuses her care of patients on “simulated patients.” Dr. Morse has presented and worked with healthcare simulation centers nationally and internationally. Her expertise includes active learning, simulation faculty development, healthcare simulation, difficult conversations, experiential learning, and psychological safety in teams and learning.
