Blog - The CMS Justification Toolkit

In response to requests from our learners, CMS is pleased to introduce the CMS Justification Toolkit, a suite of templates, letters, and guides to help you succeed in making requests for education funding to your organization’s administration. In today’s funding environment, helping administrators see the value of faculty development to their own institutional plans and demonstrating clear outcomes and deliverables from these courses is more important than ever.  The toolkit is available as a downloadable, editable document at the bottom of this page.

What can this toolkit do for you?

  • This Justification Toolkit can help you make the case for attending the Healthcare Simulation Essentials: Design & Debriefing (HSE), our flagship course for simulation instructors.
  • This toolkit helps you frame participation in CMS courses as a strategic institutional investment, as well as an individual development opportunity.
  • Funding and time requests that are specific, focused on pre-planned outcomes & deliverables, and aligned with organizational goals are more likely to be approved. This toolkit helps you present a clear, professional, and credible request that demonstrates planning, responsibility, and value to the organization.
  • You can select from the ready-to-use language in this toolkit to help support your approval request. The toolkit helps connect course outcomes to institutional priorities, such as patient safety and quality outcomes, bedside readiness and competency, interprofessional teamwork, and communication.

Toolkit Components:

  • “What is the Center for Medical Simulation (CMS)?” Organizational Overview
  • “What is Healthcare Simulation Essentials?” Course Overview
  • How to Answer: “Why is This Course Worth the Investment?”
