Boston, MA — The Center for Medical Simulation bids a fond farewell and best wishes for his retirement to our longtime COO, Gary Rossi, who finishes out nearly sixteen years of work with us as of this Friday, June 27th, 2025. Gary joined the Center for Medical Simulation in 2009 as our Chief Operating Officer and has shepherded the center through three Executive Directors, many changes to our Board of Directors, and countless iterations to our Faculty Development Programs, ALPS and Affiliate Programs, and Fellowship Programs.

Gary began his career in 1974 as a physical therapist and spent seventeen years as the leader of a physical therapy and rehab service before moving into healthcare management consulting and healthcare organization administration. Since joining CMS, Gary has been responsible for the administrative management, business development, marketing, direct sales and financial coordination of the Center for Medical Simulation and its programs. He was also involved in the recruitment and hiring of all but two current CMS faculty and staff members.

CMS Group PhotoAmong Gary’s many notable contributions to the Center for Medical Simulation are, along with CMS Executive Director Roxane Gardner, former CMS Executive Director and current Senior Director for Innovation Jenny Rudolph, and the CMS Board of Directors, managing CMS’ finances, space utilization, staffing, and human resources and wellness policies through the COVID-19 pandemic. His shared leadership allowed us to emerge from the other side of the pandemic with team and services intact and to robustly continue our mission to improve clinician well-being, team readiness, and patient safety through learning conversations in the sim lab, the classroom, and the clinic.

Gary’s announced plans for his retirement include cruises, travel to Italy, spending time with his grandchildren, and time in Cape Cod and Florida with his wife Laura.
