Demian Szyld, MD, EdM joins the American Thoracic Society’s Section on Medical Education Podcast for a talk on “Structured Simulation Debriefings.” During the in-depth interview, Demian covers a variety of topics including the phases of a debriefing, strategies for communicating with participants, creating a psychologically safe learning environment, and the subtle nuances of debriefing language.

About Demian Szyld, MD, EdM: 

Demian is the Senior Director of the Institute for Medical Simulation at the Center for Medical Simulation and an Emergency Physician at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He trained in Emergency Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and was the first Simulation and Education Fellow at the STRATUS Simulation Center. During that time, he completed his Masters in Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. From 2011 to 2016 he was the Medical Director of NYSIM, the simulation center of the NYU School of Medicine and the City University of New York where he established a successful Fellowship. Dr. Szyld (pronounced “shield”) is actively involved in the Society for Simulation in Healthcare and currently serves on the Board of Directors. Demian grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina and is fluent in Spanish and English.
