Assistant Director/Educator
Center for Medical Simulation Affiliate Programs
Center for Medical Simulation, 100 First Ave., Suite 400, Boston, MA 02129-2011

The Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital seeks to hire an Assistant Director/Educator for activities that support the efforts of the Center for Medical Simulation (CMS) in enhancing the success of its affiliated simulation programs. The duties include helping develop CMS internal program capabilities, mentoring faculty and staff, developing curricula and content and teaching in courses for clinicians and instructors, and to a limited extent conducting and supporting educational research.

This is a promotion track faculty position at the Harvard Medical School, starting at the Instructor or Assistant Professor level. Qualified candidates must have experience in teaching healthcare educators of various disciplines in the techniques of simulation and have experience in education involving high-realism and other forms of simulation. Because CMS conducts itself on a world stage, the candidate should have experience with international simulation and associated professional societies. Requirements include: a PhD in education or a relevant behavioral science; clinical experience is helpful but not required; 5 or more years experience in an inter-professional simulation educational environment; 3 or more years management and leadership experience. Must be able to travel nationally and internationally up to 30%.

CMS is a collaborative effort of the hospitals affiliated with Harvard Medical School. CMS faculty are employed via the Massachusetts General Physicians’ Organization. The Center provides a broad range of educational and training programs to physicians and other health care providers emphasizing training in management of critical events in patient care. Using sophisticated simulation tools, CMS develops educational programs to implement its mission of improving patient safety by training healthcare providers without subjecting patients to risk. The Massachusetts General Physicians Organization and the Center for Medical Simulation are equal opportunity employers. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.

Individuals interested in being considered for this position should provide a cover letter specifying their qualifications and a CV via email to Gary Rossi, MBA, C.O.O. at grossi1@partners.org. Applications close February 22, 2015.
