Center for Medical Simulation Principal Faculty member Demian Szyld has been named the Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs for the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Boston Medical Center.

In his time at Boston Medical Center, Demian has grown two faculty development centers, the Innovation Incubator and the Fellowship Academy, and he will continue to lead both as they strive to help fellows and faculty at BMC transition from residency to practice. Demian has over a decade of leadership experience in academic medicine having led programs at NYU Langone Medical Center in addition to his ongoing work with the Center for Medical Simulation.

Demian has published significantly on faculty development, debriefing, and simulation-based education. He has been recognized as a leader in the fields of simulation-based education, emergency medicine, and faculty development, with achievements including serving on the Board of Directors of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, the international organization for advancement of simulation-based education in healthcare, and numerous workshops and presentations at IMSH (International Meeting for Simulation in Healthcare) and SAEM (Society for Academic Emergency Medicine) conferences in the last decade.

Demian’s primary focus in his new role will be faculty development and guidance and will include facilitating professional development programs and leadership and teamwork trainings. Demian will also work with other BMC leaders to develop and grow diversity, equity and inclusion programs and physician health and resilience programs.
