The Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) announced its newest members of the SSH Board of Directors on September 24th, 2020: https://www.ssih.org/About-SSH/Board-of-Directors/Board-of-Director-Current-Election-Results. Janice Palaganas, PhD, APRN, ANEF, FNAP, FAAN, FSSH was officially named Secretary of the SSH Board of Directors following a month-long voting period. Dr. Palaganas is the Associate Director of Health Professions Education at MGH Institute of Health Professions and Principal Faculty at the Center for Medical Simulation (CMS).
“We are amidst historical times and the pandemic is showing us what we are capable of accomplishing with existing technology,” says Dr. Palaganas. “Given what we’re living through right now, I am most excited about being in a position to best understand what everyone has been doing to help shape our field to meet future needs and to keep building effective learning upon our existing knowledge and technology.”
Dr. Palaganas adds: “I am also excited about assisting in identifying ways to identify bias and discover more inclusive simulation practices, as well as create career paths for simulationists worldwide.”
Dr. Palaganas has worked with CMS for almost 10 years as a faculty member and previously as its Director of Education Innovation and Development. She currently teaches in the Healthcare Simulation Essentials: Design and Debriefing course, Debriefing Assessment for Simulation in Healthcare (DASH)© Rater Training Workshop, and is Course Director for The Feedback Course. Dr. Palaganas is one-half of the wildly popular podcasting duo, “DJ Simulationistas…’Sup?” with Dan Raemer.
Dr. Palaganas led the development and launch of the PhD in Health Professions Education-Simulation-based Education and Interprofessional Education and is currently heading the launch of a Masters in Health Professions Education: Healthcare Simulation Operations in January 2021 at the MGH Institute of Health Professions. The program reviews applications on a rolling basis and is now accepting students for its first cohort.
